New Mazdaspeed 3: AWD and N/A?

--------

This one is dedicated to and inspired by my sister. Her love of her 2012 Mazda 3 hatch, and Mazdas in general, reflects how I feel towards cars. Remember to always climb higher and higher, because the potential you have is greater than you can imagine.

--------

The Mazdaspeed 3 is renowned for its ability to provide high performance drivability at an affordable price. It pits itself against cars such as the Volkswagen GTI, Ford Focus ST, and Subaru Impreza WRX – a group of hot hatches that offer forced induction performance for under the $30,000 mark. The styling has improved over the two generations, and looks to improve yet again.

With the new Mazda 3 already available for purchase, it is a bit of a letdown that the new Speed 3 has not officially been announced yet. However, sources from within the frameworks of Mazda have indicated that the new Speed 3 is under development. And, if the new styling of the Mazda 3 is any indication of what the Speed 3 will look like, we may be in for a treat. Above, you’ll see a render of what the Speed 3 could look like. The headlights offer a more aggressive front fascia that flows well with the curves of the hatch. The doors are not so bulky as to make the MS3 seem obese, and they blend well with the sleek, aerodynamic look. The larger spoiler will provide downforce to keep the car's rear wheels planted during turns, which is unnecessary for a FWD car. But that's what we'll get into next.

It is possible that the new Speed 3 will be AWD. This is because the new Mazda 3 shares the same platform as its crossover big brother, the AWD CX-5. Program manager Takeo Mariuchi has said that putting an AWD system in the next Speed 3 will not exactly be hard. An AWD system would mean the first and second gears would not have to be toned down prevent wheel-spin, like they are now.We are unsure of how the Speed 3 will be powered though. It may sport forced induction; it may not. There are rumors that it may be powered by a naturally aspirated motor. At that point, there may be no need for the stylish hood scoop that was added in the second generation.

Please be reminded that this is a render, but we believe that whatever design Mazda comes up with for the Speed 3 will look nothing short of astounding. They have set themselves up very well with the great styling of the base Mazda 3.

We will update you as more information is leaked or provided.
